Welcome to the 11:00 Church At Home

Although we can’t be together this Sunday as one big family, we’re still connected by God’s love for us and our love for him and each other! Below is a suggested structure for you to spend time worshipping God and receiving from him today. Please don’t feel like you have to stick to 11am on a Sunday – find a time that will work for you and your family without other distractions.

If you have kids, feel free to swap around or miss out certain parts from other sections. E.g. You might want to do whole family worship with your kids from the ‘Kids’ section and watch the Teaching talk at another time when the kids have gone to bed etc.

As we gather for worship, find a comfortable position, either sitting or standing.
Let’s read this Psalm out loud and remind us of God’s goodness.

Psalm 146
Praise the Lord.
Praise the Lord, my soul.
I will praise the Lord all my life;
I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.
Do not put your trust in princes,
in human beings, who cannot save.
When their spirit departs, they return to the ground;
on that very day their plans come to nothing.
Blessed are those whose help is the God of Jacob,
whose hope is in the Lord their God.
He is the Maker of heaven and earth,
the sea, and everything in them –
he remains faithful for ever.
He upholds the cause of the oppressed
and gives food to the hungry.
The Lord sets prisoners free,
the Lord gives sight to the blind,
the Lord lifts up those who are bowed down,
the Lord loves the righteous.
The Lord watches over the foreigner
and sustains the fatherless and the widow,
but he frustrates the ways of the wicked.
10 The Lord reigns for ever,
your God, O Zion, for all generations.
Praise the Lord

Now, if you find it helpful, close your eyes and place your hands out as if you are receiving a ‘gift’. Stay there in the stillness for a moment. Breath in deeply. Ask God to fill you with his love, and as you breathe out, handing God all those worries and anxieties you feel right now. Great.

Let’s worship him together through singing (go on be brave!) or listening to these songs below!

This is a playlist of songs, they will automatically play after each other.

Teaching & Discussion

Watch this week’s talk and then answer the questions below.

Suggestion: You could do this by setting up a WhatsApp video call/ Skype/ phone call, or by chatting it through with any members of your family who are with you in your home.

  • What stood out for you from today’s teaching?
  • What surprised you?
  • What questions do you still have?
  • What is God saying to you?
  • Write down one practical way you could live differently from what you’ve heard.
  • Share this with a friend/family member/accountability partner.

To go deeper this week, check out the Eat This Book Journal to pray and reflect further on this Bible reading and on any you might have missed so far in the series.

To conclude this time, spend some time in prayer. If you are doing this with members of family then do this together if possible.

Begin with a few minutes in silence, listening for what God might have to say to you or to your Community in this moment, then share what came to mind. After a few minutes of listening and sharing, spend time praying for:

  • Eradication of COVID-19 and healing for those who are sick.
  • Followers of Jesus to be a presence of peace and love in our town.
  • Financial provision for our church and for God’s mission in Widnes.
  • Any needs in your family/Connect Group/neighbourhood.
  • Prayer for those who are particularly isolated and vulnerable at this time.
  • For rough sleepers who are struggling to be safe outdoors.

If you have kids, you could say a short prayer first and then invite them to say a short prayer and/or together draw your prayers on paper and share.

Let’s sing one last song together.
