Hi everyone! Today we are looking at another of the parables that Jesus told. These were stories that Jesus used to help people understand and know more about him and the kingdom of God.
Follow through the page or choose the parts that work best for you and your child at home today. You don’t need to have all the answers, just chatting together and asking questions together will build your child’s relationship with Jesus and yours too! If anything comes up that you aren’t sure about and want some help to explain it to your child then get in touch.
Praying, worshipping and opening the bible together is an amazing thing to do as a family and will give you and your child tools to help them now and in the future. You’re doing amazing!
I hope you have a great time today doing Church At Home together!
Send your photos of what you’ve been up to, I’d love to see them and I know others in the church would love to see them too.
Let’s build 2 towers and see how tall you can build each of them! You can do this out of Lego or other building blocks if you have some, or other things in your house you can stack.
Tower 1 – Build a tower on a table or hard floor.
Tower 2 – Build a tower on top of a pillow/cushion or folded up duvet.
Which tower was the tallest and the strongest?
Watch this video about The Parable of the Two Builders.
You can look this parable up in Matthew 7:24-29.
Questions to talk through together
- Which house would you like to live in? The house built on the rock or the sand?
- Jesus talks about people being wise and people being foolish. What do these people look like and do?
On two pieces of paper draw ‘Mr/Mrs Wise’ and ‘Mr/Mrs Fool’
Inside Mr/Mrs Wise, write things that you think make that person wise.
Inside Mr/Mrs Fool, write things that you think make that person foolish.
If your child needs help thinking of things, mention things that you think could be wise or foolish and ask them which person they think they should go in. e.g. ‘Asking for help’, ‘being rude to someone because everyone else is’.
Jesus says we are wise when we hear his teaching and obey it. Because when we build our lives on the teachings of Jesus, we become stronger, like the house built on the rock.
- What can we do to build stronger lives with Jesus?
- What do you think Jesus is trying to teach us in this parable?
Read James 1:5:
“If any of you need wisdom, you should ask God, and it will be given to you. God is generous and won’t correct you for asking.”
We can always ask God for more wisdom so we can like the wise man who built his house on solid rock. What do you want to ask God for wisdom for?
Dear God, please give me more wisdom in…
